Born in Peace River, Alberta in 1968, Chrystia Freeland grew up with a passion for journalism and politics. Her father was a lawyer and her mother was a writer, exposing her to the world of words and ideas at a young age. Freeland went on to study at Harvard University, where she earned a degree in Russian history and literature. With her education and ambition, she began her career as a journalist, covering stories around the world and becoming a renowned author and speaker.

But it wasn’t until 2013 that Freeland made the bold move into Canadian politics. She ran for a seat in Toronto’s federal riding and won, quickly rising through the ranks and catching the attention of Justin Trudeau. In 2015, she was appointed as Canada’s Minister of International Trade, where she played a crucial role in negotiating the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.

In 2019, Freeland made history by becoming Canada’s first female Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to retaining her role as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. She continues to be a strong advocate for worker’s rights, women’s equality, and free trade. With her sharp intellect, fearless attitude, and dedication to public service, Chrystia Freeland is a role model for women everywhere.
